Even with a quartz .The Breitling caliber 69 is a rare mecaquartz movement found in the Chronoracer Rattrapanté model (Ref: A69048). This movement was in watches that were sold around 2000 to 2002. Piguet’s 1270 and 1271 were used by a big number of brands, including Breitling (like the Cal. 69 pictured above), Omega, Hublot, Bulgari and Daniel Roth. Even with a quartz base, this was a really high-tech movement, using two quartz crystals oscillating at different frequencies (1kHz and 16kHz).
Frédéric Piguet’s meca-quartz movements powered a variety of watches from Breitling, Omega, Chopard and Bulgari. Jaeger-LeCoultre’s meca-quartz movements ended up in certain Jaeger-LeCoultre chronographs but were more commonly used in IWC and Porsche Design watches. This system — “mechanical quartz,” which came to be styled “meca-quartz” — powered chronographs from Omega, Bulgari, Chopard, Breitling, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Porsche Design, and IWC throughout the late 1980s and 1990s. This is my Breitling Chronoracer A69348, a rare 39mm Rattrapante split-second Chronograph with a column wheel and vertical clutch meca-quartz movement (Cal.69) developed by F.Piguet on the same base as the 1181 movement, which was also used as basis for the 1185 which is used in the AP Royal Oak, BP Fifty Fathoms and VC Overseas chronographs!
